Library of noledge

Hush man! You in a Spooky library of some sorts!

The read reading list!

Since I liked having a nice list of all my games together, I figured I'd do the same for books. Starting now I'll try to document what I read. This includes comics, manga, and light novels. I'm not gonna add things I've read before so this list isn't a complete collection of what I've read but is still a good attempt. I will attempt to put an Amazon link to the book where possible. I am not sponsored by Amazon nor do I buy my books solely from them. These links are simply for convenience and make it easier to track down the books again. There are also some links to Book Walker when relevant.

It does look like I'm nothing but a manga freak but there are a lot of them on the list for the simple reason that they are light and quick to read. I promise I have more interesting things to add soon. haha.

Title Type Year Finished Status Notes
The Red Earth: A Vietnamese Memoir of Life on a Colonial Rubber Plantation by Tran Tu Binh Book 2018 Finished A short but interesting look at life on a rubber plantation from the viewpoint of a young Vietnamese communist.
What Soldiers Do: Sex and the American GI in World War II France by Mary Louise Roberts Book 2018 Finished Perhaps one of the best examinations of the US GI in France through their relations with the French people they encountered. Recommended for anyone with an interest in WW2 history.
Your Death Would Be Mine: Paul and Marie Pireaud in the Great War by Martha Hanna Book 2018 Finished A really powerful book on one rural French couple's experiences through WWI.
The French Revolution and Human Rights: A Brief History with Documents by Lynn Hunt Book 2018 Finished Excellent source on the French Revolution.
Crisis Girls Vol. 1 by Hiroaki Yoshikawa Manga 2018 Finished Pretty funny manga. Cute, well drawn art and memorable characters.
Case Red: The Collapse of France by Robert Forczyk Audiobook 2018 Finished Very excellent look at a often forgotten part of the French Campaign of 1940. A well thought out presentation of the facts that dispell most rumors about the French Army.
On Grand Strategy by John Lewis Gaddis Audiobook 2018 Finished An eye opening view on thinking about strategy on a much larger scale.
The Village by Bing West Audiobook 2018 Finished An excellent book about one of the most successful Combined Action Platoons in Vietnam. Skips any sort of political commentary about the war and just tells it how it was.
American Ulysses: A Life of Ulysses S. Grant by Ronald C. White Audiobook 2018 Finished My god. Such a fantastic epic about a man I knew so little about but now I have a deep appreciation of. Highly recommended.
Fool Moon (Dresden Files) by Jim Butcher Audiobook 2018 Finished The second Dresden Files book. Really good even if Jim Butcher seems to want to write some parts very erotically (to the point of uncomfortableness).
Deep Work: Rules for Focused Success in a Distracted World by Cal Newport Audiobook 2018 Finished A good book on the power of undistracted concentration on a single problem. A lot of ideas presented in here that I keep in mind nearly everyday.
Erased, Vol. 1 by Kei Sanbe eBook Manga 2018 Finished A gripping start to what I hope will be a fantastic murder mystery series. Already bought the second volume.
Konosuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World!, Vol. 1 by NatsumeAkatsuki / Kurone Mishima eBook Light Novel 2018 Finished Decent. Sometimes funny. Mostly enjoyable.
Six Days of War: June 1967 and the Making of the Modern Middle East by Michael B. Oren Audiobook 2018 Finished This might be THE book to get on the Six Day War. Covers so much material and is written really well.
House to House: An Epic Memoir of War by Staff Sergeant David Bellavia Audiobook 2018 Finished One hellva a book. The version read by Ray Porter is extremely powerful. He is a really good narrator.
The Combat Baker and Automaton Waitress, Vol. 1 by SOW / Zaza Light Novel/ebook 2017 Finished Cute little visual novel about a mech AI that turns into a cute waitress girl for a scary lookin' dude who runs a bakery.
Not Lives Vol. 4 by Wataru Karasuma Manga 2017 Finished Finishes up the big battle scene from last volume. Does an neat twist on it. More plot thickening. Big bads are introduced and they are all cute girls. I think this series is starting to really grow on me.
Win Bigly: Persuasion in a World Where Facts Don't Matter by Scott Adams Audiobook 2017 Finished A persuading look into Trump's 2016 general election win with Scott Adams, the Dilbert guy and who was one of the first to predict Trump's win.
Hunt for the Skinwalker: Science Confronts the Unexplained at a Remote Ranch in Utah by Colm A. Kelleher Ph.D. and George Knapp Audiobook 2017 Finished Really interesting book about the strange events that plagued the family living on the ranch and the resulting NIDS investigation.
Not Lives Vol. 3 by Wataru Karasuma Manga 2017 Finished Series does a Battle Royale/Hunger Games like thing. I really only read it for the cute main girl.
Roadside Picnic by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky Audiobook 2017 Finished Truely one of the best SF novels out there. Even taking out my love for the STALKER movie and game series, it is still a very excellent piece. My copy was narrated by Robert Forster and man, he is really good. Exactly how I thought Red would sound when I first read the book. The way he reads adds to the despair and character of the world. Highly recommend.
Zinky Boys: Soviet Voices from the Afghanistan War by Svetlana Alexievich Audiobook 2017 Finished A good read about the Soivet-Afghanistan war. Features a lot of little stories of different people who served on the Soviet side. Depressing but esstential and human.
Tokyo Ghoul: re Vol 1 by Sui Ishida Manga 2017 Finished Never read/watched the original Tokyo Ghoul so this was a little confusing but was a very good police detective/supernatural horror combo. Don't ever trust a taxi driver who makes creme puffs.
Dimension W Vol. 1 by Yuji Iwahara Manga 2017 Finished Really neat idea with cool art even if the story was a little hard to follow. Well worth the read.
Inuyashiki 1 by Hiroya Oku Manga 2017 Finished Man this book gave me some feels. A sad grandpa gets killed by aliens and revived as a cyborg so he pledges to help people to give his life meaning.
Not Lives Vol. 2 by Wataru Karasuma Manga 2017 Finished Second volume of a cool, if kinda bland, series. Japanese kids kill each other for points in some game of sorts.
Girls' Last Tour, Vol. 1 by Tsukumizu Manga 2017 Finished Great read. Nice cute characters contrasted with a empty and cold apocalpyse.
Beyond NATO: A New Security Architecture For Eastern Europe by Michael E. O'Hanlon Book 2017 Dropped Rented book from library. Did not finish before I returned it. Got about halfway through. Was a quite informal and interesting read on NATO and the Russian border nations.
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime 1 by Fuse Manga 2017 Finished Nice, interesting story about a slime that takes over a fantasy world. Funny and with good art.
